CD ReviewsBeutiful beyond words 09/30/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Have you ever heard a voice that came from your own inner soul? A voice that sang through your dreams in the dark hours of the night, that you never thought could possibly be captured on record? That's how I felt when I first heard Kathi McDonald, especially the title track "Above and Beyond." It's the voice I've always wanted to be able to sing with, and she knows everything I feel. This cd has not been out of my player since I bought it. I'm addicted to it. Some of the most beautiful tracks are "Above and Beyond", "A Soulful Prayer", "Two Drifters", "Ain't It Wonderful", and "Girl You Don't Move Me." I cannot recommend this album highly enough - no one has moved me like this since I first heard Janis and Aretha. I cannot compare their styles or music to Kathi's, I can only compare the raw emotion. Slow, sultry, sexy, soulful, spiritual...this is an absolutely amazing woman. She has several other recordings that are sadly out of print (most notably "Insane Asylum", with a cover of "To Love Somebody" that absolutely blows Janis' cover out of the water) but it is well worth your while to try to track them down. Get copies for all your friends and make Kathi McDonald the household name that she deserves to be!!" She's the best! S. Miller | Alpine, CA USA | 08/11/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Kathi Mcdonald has been around for a long time, but not very many people will recognize her name, although they've probably heard her voice on albums by the likes of the Rolling Stones,Joe Cocker,Leon Russell, and many others. In fact she has sung on over 70 gold albums doing mostly backup vocals. She recorded an excellent solo album in the early 70's titled "Insane Asylum". Her newest solo album really shows her talent not only singing but song writing also. This cd "Above and Beyond" showcases her powerful voice and has my favorite song she has ever done, the self-penned title track "Above and Beyond". Anyone who has had a relationship go bad can easily identify with it. On closing I'd like to say if you get a chance see her "live", she puts on probably the best live show I've ever seen. P.S. 11/23/03 Her Insane Asylum cd brand new and remastered is available at http://www.magic-records.com/general-gb.html"
