Terrific talent from the streets of NYC

"I'd seen Kathleen a few times playing her guitar and singing in the 96th St. #1/2/3/9 subway line in NYC, and each time I was captivated by the beauty of her voice and skill of her crisp guitar playing. So a few weeks ago I bought this CD of hers, one of two she has for sale. I can't wait to see her again so I can buy the other one.
Honestly, I bought the album without high expectations, more that I wanted to pay her respect for her talent on the subway platform. The album, however, is truly excellent. Her talent extends beyond great guitar skill and a striking clear, beautiful voice to tremendous gift at lyricism. Her songs are all completely engaging, variously haunting, inspiring, humorous, moving. She's backed by a small band on each of the tunes, with funky, spirited arrangments.
Generally the music is in the genre of Natalie Merchant, Tracy Chapman and Joan Armatrading, I'd say. Too bad such great talent isn't better known to a larger audience. I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you like the artists noted above."
