"Kathy Kosins is a Detroit native who went from a pop backup singer to a female jazz vocalist star. Although her earlier work, such as Mood Swings, featured mostly originals, on Vintage, Kathy mostly puts away the pen to sing some jazz standards, as well as some "not so" standards. She is even bold enough to tackle some Sinatra with "These Boot Are Made for Walkin'". (That's Nancy Sinatra, you know.) Whether from the quality of songs or Kathy's increasing depth and skill, or maybe the change in record labels, this recording brings a lot to the table for jazz fans. It's fun to listen to, varied, and very professionally executed. Production quality is high and Kathy's voice is superb, weaving in and out, high and low, soft and mellow, or hard and crisp, whatever the song calls for. As a contemporary jazz artist, Vintage is a work that makes sure Kathy Kosins will be around for quite a while. Jazz fans should probably get to know her now, and this CD would be a great place to start.
