"The first time I heard "Solara March," I played it 14 straight times. Even today, 4/26/08, I played it three times. It is that good. Say what you like about Keith Jarrett. Dude can flat play the piano. This is the kind of CD you listen on a long drive, or alone at home with no intrusions."

"Without expressing any criticism or rating the quality of the music from the album, I still want to note that the album is very different from the most of Jarrett's works both solo or within trio. It could in short be characterized as "symphonic exercises", to which Keith has never returned later (as far as I know). Apart from the "symphony", the album also presents a sufficient amount of Garbarek's sax solos. As for Keith's piano, it plays mainly supporting role. So if you are looking for Keith's brilliant piano, you'd better look elsewhere or at least listen before you buy."

"I am addicted to "Runes" and "Mirrors", both of which draw me in and hold me fixed. ("Solara March" turns into a nice toe-tapper but it's not the profound experience of the other two, if you ask me.) Perhaps Haden (on bass) and Garbarek (on sax) were given some room to improvise, I don't know; but all of these pieces are basically careful compositions. I can't understand why Jarrett, when he can write music like this, wants to pound out those monotonous improvisations of his (as they have gotten to be sometimes)."
