CD ReviewsSerenading auntie John C. Graham | toronto, ontario Canada | 10/24/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "21 BBC sides, recorded between 1955-1960, taken from Jazz Club, Break for Jazz, and TV Broadcasts, with a total playing time of 63 minutes and 34 seconds. Johnny Bastable plays banjo on all the tunes. Ian Wheeler and Sammy Rimington share clarinet chores. Mac Duncan and Graham Stewart are heard on trombone. The great Colin Bowden is on drums and Ron Ward bass on all but two numbers. The CEDAR process was used to clean up the original acetates. The sound is very good. All the instruments are heard in fine detail. The bass playing is captured remarkably well. The performances from(mostly)the "classic" lineup are excellent. They duplicate some of the tunes that were done for studio release but these"live"recordings have that extra edge. Standards, blues, rags, and popular songs are covered by the band in typical Colyer fashion. That, of course, means New Orleans revival style. It's music played only as Ken Colyer could play it. That, in itself, is a stamp of approval or a seal of excellence. There was nobody like him. This is a great disc."
