CD Reviews

Great performances, despite NO VOODOO CHILD on regular editi
Baberufus | West Jordan, UT USA | 10/04/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Kenny Wayne hearkens back to his roots here, playing a mixture of blues standards and old KWS favorites, with his trusty vocalist Noah Hunt re-assuming his lead vocal duties after Kenny's latest studio flop, "The Shape You're In". Actually, Noah has to take a backseat for much of this album to make room for the several guest stars, which turn in fine performances, with Kenny's accompanying fat Strat tone searing into the Stratosphere! His tone is KILLER, with plenty of bite and depth! Noah sounds better than ever--really bluesing it up here! Only 2 gripes: 1) Deja Voodoo is performed with a slower, more laid-back, lilting beat than on the studio version, and ehh, just doesn't work, IMO. And 2) They chose to leave off Voodoo Child! The only time he has recorded it in the past is on the flipside of the Blue on Black CD single, which is IMPOSSIBLE to find unless you want to pay a small fortune! It's a personal thing for me, I must admit, as I had the chance to see the KWS band live this past summer, but the concert was cut short due to a lightning storm. I'm pretty sure he would have played Voodoo Child, so I'm still looking for restitution--lol.

A must have for all KWS fans--great sound, too!

EDIT: OK, another reviewer informed me that there is a deluxe edition with Voodoo Child (I fixed my review title accordingly). Hurray, but it ticks me off that I didn't know about before buying the scaled down version CD. Nevertheless, I of course will have to purchase the Deluxe version now...live and learn... :-)"
C'Mon Kenny! You Need to Keep Up with Joe Bonamassa and Joe

"This CD smokes - no doubt! Kenny is truly one of the greats, and it's about time he put out a live album. I saw hime live twice, and there's no comparing the live experience to album play. My complaint is that it has been years since he has recorded new music. It's nice to listen to his older material on this CD, but I want some new music! Joe Bonamassa and Joe Satriani put out great Cd's almost every year. I know Kenny can't be running out of his creative juices yet!"
KWS Shreds!

"Finally KWS is caught on tape ripping it up! This album is worth it for Voodoo Child alone. KWSB routinely closes their sets with this song and it's great to hear a pro recording of it. The KWSB standards are great and the songs with the guests were great picks! Highly recommended for any blues fan."
