"Khanate some years ago was a revelation. I consider O'Malley one of the most creative musicians in the genre. His work has always set a new standard and a breed of inspiration regardless of the variety of collaborations he is involved with. Reviewing his output is like watching where the head of the snake is pointing. My only problem with Khanate so far has been a certain degree of inconsistency. Their approach of exploring the possibilities of modern doom tendencies is truly admirable in its stylistic span, but the price paid for being the pioneers is evident - some ups and some downs. C&R on the other hand is thier most coherent work to date. A solid session indeed, utilizing all the best Khanate can do from the blazing noise oppression to the quiet-before-the-storm introspection. Once you come to terms with thier sophisticated spooky vibe (especially lyrics-wise) prepare for a very special bizzare club experience. The scary surprise factor of thier previous work gives way to a more concentrated meditative note. That's evolution. Pleased to see that, cos "scared" too much turns into "bored" as you get older..."
