"It's very hard to believe all of the bad reviews this CD has gotten. Fortunately, not a single one of them is deserved. Too many fans expect an artist to continue into eternity playing the same old stuff in the same old style. That's why commercial FM is so hard to listen to anymore.
Well, Kid Rock isn't afraid to try something different. This CD takes us back to Kid Rock's roots, and they are steeped deep in southern rock of the 1970s as well as outright country music. If you hate country music or southern rock, then "Cocky" definately isn't for you. Stick to listening to the radio instead...you'll be happier all around.
However, if you want to see what a great artist can do with his music and listen to him reformulate some of it to leaning HARD on southern music and C&W, then this is the place to be.
This recording starts out with "Trucker Anthem" and "Forever". Now the Kid has you lulled into a sense of music familiarity, but he then moves on to "Lay It On Me", which gives just a hint of what's to come."Cocky" is typical Kid Rock at his best, so now you've become lulled again...but then the big turn begins. Watch out...there's some exciting music ahead. The album moves along with a southern rock twinged hip hop style for a couple of songs, but then the masterpiece is here... "Picture" (sung with Sheryl Crow)is grade AAA pure country music at it's best, befitting George Jones and Tammy Wynette in their prime(have I scared anyone away yet?), which is fabulous. This is what country music would sound like today if something hadn't gone terribly amiss in Nashville long ago when the outlaw movement died down. This is the real stuff for real music lovers. The rest of the CD pretty much pays homage to the southern rock sound. There's even a hip hop number with Snoop Dog to round out this eclectic mixture.
Thank goodness I'm older than 12 (WAY older)and love this CD. It's different from his previous CD (but even on that one you can hear some of this style creeping through).Keep it coming Kid."

The Kid Proves How Talented He Is

"Finally Kid Rock is back and showing how talented he is. This cd "Cocky" has old kinds of music like rock, heavy metal, rap, country, slow stuff,blues, and many more. "Cocky" features a song with Sheryl Crow,a song with Uncle Kracker, and a song with Snoop Dogg. Here are the songs on the cd and what I think about them:
1.)Trucker Anthem-a rap/rock song featuring Uncle Kracker, GREAT INTRO TO THE CD!
2.)Forever-rap/rock song which is good, but I think he should have chose a different song for his first single.
3.)Lay It On Me-rap/rock/bluesy song, pretty good song.
4.)Cocky-rap/rock song that kinda reminds me of Devil With Out A Cause
5.)What I Learned Out On The Road-a good rock song that shows Kid Rocks great singing talent and kinda sounds like a Lynard Skynard song.
6.)I'm Wrong But U Ain't Right-one of the heavier songs I have ever heard from Kid, starts out slow then bangs your (...)head off(my favorite song on the cd)
7.)Lonely Road of Faith-a slow rock song that shows you again Kid's singing talent
8.)You Never Met A Mother F*cker Quite Like Me-rock song that tells u how good Kid Rock is, has some guitar from Freebird.
9.)Picture f/Sheryl Crow-kind of a country song, great singing from Kid Rock and Sheryl.
10.)I'm A Dog-kind of a southern rock song that I like a lot.
11.)Midnight Train To Memphis-slow/rock song, GREAT SONG, starts slow then comes some rap/rock, then comes some great rock.
12.)Baby Come Home-kind of a blues song, which is one of the only blues song i like
13.)Drunk In The Morning-starts out slow then turns into a GREAT rock song that kinda sounds like 80's rock (my other favorite song on the cd)
14.) WCSR f/Snoop Dogg-rap song with funny sex lyrics"

The Kid becomes a Man

"This album was a good effort from the kid but after hearing it all the way through his sound has changed from the past three years and it was something i had not expected.1.Trucker Anthem- One of the best of the very few rock songs on this album great opener reminded me of Bawitaba.2.Forever- My second most favorite song on the album great rock/rap song.3.Lay It On Me- Great song upbeat light rock track that has great beats.4.Cocky- Good rock song reminds me of Devil Without A Cause (the song not the album) a little too much cussing but at least i know now why they called it Cocky.5.What I Learned Out On The Road- Great country rock song I like the chorus kind of sounds like the blues.6.Im Wrong But You Ain't Right- Good rock song but is it me or is the chorus where he screams "Right" a little annoying?7.Lonely Road Of Faith- My favorite song on the album although im not a big fan of country i take special interest to this song i believe he put his heart and soul in this song beautiful song reminded me of Only God Knows Why.8.You Never Met A Mother Quite Like Me- Good song basicaly he's talking about what a rebel he is basically he's bragging about himself.9.Picture- good soft song kid's pretty good singing the duet with Sheryl Crow.10.Im A Dog- Okay song but it sounds a little different from the rest of the album it has like an early 80's rock sound to it.11.Midnight Train To Memphis- Very soft song from the begining I almost fell asleep until David Spade expresses his and my feelings about the song then it gets hard and edgy until the end12.Baby Come Home- Okay song about the blues of his girl leaving him and then coming home at the end not to much thought into the song and it was kind of short.13.Drunk In The Morning- Starts off slow but gets real good with good ol' plain hard rock great song.14.WCSR- Im not to fond of rap anymore but this rap song is okay it's kind of funny though him and snoop work good together but personally I think it was a waste of space. Overall not that bad 4 stars and why? because i was expecting something like Devil Without A Cause my favorite album not to say Cocky is bad its just not what i expected and it had too much country and not enough rock PEACEOUT"

Musicial Talent At Its Best (A Very Diverse Follow up)

"Kid Rocks's follow up to Devil Without a Cause is a very solid album. I have read some of the comments from others and it seems as though there is an anti-Kid Rock movement going on. This album is a good buy and is the first true testiment of the diversity of Kid Rock. He ranges from TRUE rock, to rap, to even samples of traditional country music. In an era where pop and electronic music have become so popular, one man is trying to break the barriers and make music that has feeling and comes from the heart. His recent projects with everyone from Willy Nelson, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Run DMC to Hank Williams Jr, Phish and Eminem, shows that great range of diversity that this star brings to the table. Don't forget the live shows as well. He changes the set list like a jam band and brings all the props like ACDC or Metallica. He also plays every instrument as well. Truely an amazing show. And he keeps the ticket prices at a fair rate, unlike most greedy rock stars today! If you are looking for a MUSICIAN with lots of influences and real writing and playing talent, then look no further. ..."
