Updated 2008 version of this solo Wu-Tang classic should satisfy anyone looking for another Killah fix. He's in fine form here, holding down his cult status nicely and making sure his legend in Hip Hop will continue to grow. Priest exudes a natural confidence in his delivery and in the power of his written word that puts him second to none among writers in Rap. Whether using his abilities to illustrate the darkness of his surroundings, to enlighten the listeners and the youths, or to tell biblical tales, he shines as bright as the sun. Altered Ego.
I'm not concerned what other reviewers say nor think about my review here
Because,it'd be totally irrelevant. So with that said. I just want to say this. Killah Priest is my very favorite emcee out there without a shadow of doubt. Again,i said "mine."
Because for someone else it could be another emcee. These picks are always dependant upon the way in which another hiphop head evaluates their favorite emcee.
Now with that being said. Here are some of the reasons why Killah Priest is my favorite emcee by far. Because, he's well verse in deep studies of Biblical Symbolism,Esoteric Knowledge,Afro-Centric,Ancient Cultures,Mythology,Mysticism,Metaphysics,Mystical Metaphors,Mystical Poetry,Scriptures,Rhyming,Adept at story telling,Etc;
These are just some of the many things in which i could name about his multi-talented style.I also like the fact that he synchronizes great beats with his multi-layered rhymes and lyrics.
Now do i wish that he wouldn't curse at times like he does. Well, that's another story.(LOL) Because, i know from the Album "Behind the Stained Glass" That he hardly at all uses cuss words except in very brief little parts.
In Behind The Stained Glass when viewed in full. He's not even resulting to certain verbal speech at all. Because as witnessed in his to me "Dynamic; Behind the Stained Glass Album" He's so Great of an emcee, that he dont even have to use that sort of language.
Any true to themself hiphop fan no matter how much they highly respect their favorite emcee. If they're true to themself they'll still end up evaluating some aspect or another.
Killah Priest is always coming with thorough Knowledge and Wisdom for the masses to listen too.
I hope he stays on the path with always producing positive exceptional Albums like:Heavy Mental,Behind The Stained Glass,Black August Revisited,The Offering,Priesthood,Etc;types of jewel spitting.Because the world needs positive insight and knowledge like those Beautiful Albums.
Now i'm not getting into which albums are the best or anything.Nor am i saying the ones which i didnt mention of him wasnt worth mentioning.(Indeed all of his are worth mentioning to some capacity)
Because to me, Killah Priest always puts some sort of jewels in all of his albums. He always will come thorough.
However,In this particular review.I'm just expressing the ones in which i vibrated with the most!
Yes, i could of named many of his other ones. However,as a hiphop fan that Iam.I look for straight thorough lyrics contained with knowledge and wisdom. Along with intense insight and information.
Because, we're in a time cycle where more knowledge and wisdom needs to be rapped about. And much less negative rhyming spewing towards one another.
We need true Mature Overstanding.

"Its like some true Hip-Hop fans have forgot that Priest is putting out sick solo licks every year for three years in a row. If there is a fine line between mainstream and underground Hip-Hop this latest release from the Priest is it. At times Black August sounds like the good ol' Wu-Tang beats and other times sounds like MTv Bait. That's been the feel of every Hip-Hop release in the past three years. Ending on a positive note the true ill' tracks really stand out in this release and is worth the buy. (the ill' tracks don't feel commercial.)"

"As real Hip-Hop fans would already know the past few years of material coming out has been really weak. Hip - Hop has become a rather commercial stint in an effort to reach out to the 'pop' community. Killah Priests 'Black August' along with GZA's latest 'legend of tha liquid swordz' is like a breath of fresh air into the ailing game. Moving away from the 'girls and ice' K Priest addresses more real issues on tracks like 'deja vu' and 'time'. The lyrical quality on tracks like these and Black August (both light and dark) leave you craving for more and realising why you love hip-hop so much. However what really improves from his first collab (Heavy Mental) are the beats. I gotta say this albulm has got some real phat beatz on tracks like 'Excalibur', 'Come wit me' and 'When I'm writing (supreme lyris may I add)'. Trust me you won't be dissapointed there some good producers coming thru. His masterful lyrics along with tha beatz make this albulm tha perfect compilation. Killah Priest continues to lash out at whack and commercial music which he highlights on 'Do tha Damn thing' continuing the trend from 'What part of tha game is that'. Killah Priest unlike other 'so-called' rappers (eminem) is certainily no hypocrite and is why every real hip-hop must have this albulm. I know many of you'll have lost faith in hip-hop however i plead you all not to give up and get Killah Priests 'Black August' tha light in this 'rap game'"

"Well. . . I think the four solo albums he had out between Heavy Mental and the Offering were not him. What I mean is that he was trying to reach a broader audience and it just didn't work in my opinion. That is why I skipped all four of those records. I have heavy mental, the offering, and behind the stain glass window as well as the Untold Story of Walter Reed mixed tape he gave for free on his website. I mean he needs to be himself when rapping and forget about reaching those who are not reachable.
He is deep! He's into Ancient Y'sra'El, some Islam, and a host of other things that go over people's heads. I really wish he didn't use curse words at all, but I understand why he uses the foul language.
All in all, Killah Priest (a.k.a. Priesthood) is a great rapper so long as he raps the way he did in his best albums to date: Heavy Mental, The Offering, Behind the Stain Glass, and Untold Story of Walter Reed."
