Synopsis
Album Description The Killer Meters are the brain-child of Scenario producer Sparo (aka Virgil Howe). They're a straight-up, funked-out live band specialising in the sound of The Meters. Alongside James Brown, The Meters virtually defined the funk genre since their inception in the New Orleans of the late '60's and influenced generations of music makers from the Rolling Stones (who they toured with in the 70's) to modern hip hop studio stars. The lasting appeal of their music is evident by the enthusiasm that has been generated by The Killer Meters live outings - prompting the decision to cut a limited 7" single, then a full LP of re-rubbed Meters classics. The blinding first single "Just Kissed My Baby" (featuring Karime Kendra) is included on the LP along with a selection of the heaviest Meters cuts. All are perennial favourites of funk fans, hip hop heads and plain music lovers alike. |
CD ReviewsJust kissed my baby Sam Cooke | 06/23/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "A mostly instrumental album that is absolutely perfect dancing music. The Killer Meters resurrect the sound of the incredible New Orleans funksters 'The Meters'. The playing is immaculate but these guys have feel as well. For the most part the album sounds every inch like the original band - they re-introduce us to the great material of the Meters but is there any improvement?
Well - the one new addition is the amazing 'Just kissed my baby'. A classic song from the Meters canon is given a new treatment with the addition of Karime Kendra's bombastic singing and I have to say that its even an improvement on the original. Buy it!" |
