CD Reviews

A/K/A "Rest On Me"
05/03/2000
(2 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is a reissue of Kim's FIRST solo album entitled "Rest On Me." Highlights include her cover version of "To Love Somebody" (Bee Gees). "I Won't Call You Back", written by Kim is another good song. This is not a bad album, however the recording speed is horrible! It doesn't even sound like Kim singing. This CD is probably more a novelty item, as it was her solo debut--maybe it will be remastered at the correct speed which would drastically improve it! For some "undiscovered classics", I recommend MASTER SERIES. After hearing it, (like ALL her albums), wonder why she wasn't burning up the charts."
"I did not approve this. Don't buy!" (Kim Carnes)

"I don't like them"

(Kim Carnes)

There are a lot of reeditions of "REST ON ME" on the market and most of them are made in Europe. They aren't a perfect copy of the first Kim Carnes' album. All of them have a bad qualitity of recording and not including the track "It Takes Time". Most of reeditions add a new arragement. Do not look only the cover art when you buy a record. It's a false appearence! Be smart!

The most embarrassing CD Kim has in her collection "would be one of many compilations that my old record company had put together without my knowledge and some of them aren't really good. I don't like them! Record companies love to do that. And they put new pictures, different titles... as an artist you work so hard at controlling each album that you do and then for the record company they have the right to use it all and mess it all up. It' not a good pick. I would like to say to the fans, put a disclaimer, 'I did not approve this. Don't buy!'" - She confessed to Torgen Schneider in a 2005 interview.

Someone was drunk when they remastered this one

"This is basically a reissue of Kim's debut album "Rest On Me" minus one track. Unfortunately, I am not able to really listen to this CD, because whoever remastered it did so at 31 rpm instead of normal speed. From what I could bear to listen to, it sounds like Kim's debut had some great songs on it.

This CD is one of the budget priced debacles that gets reissued over and over under different titles (quite similar to Madonna's "Early Years" and Donna Summer's "Shout it Out"). I hope someday someone takes the time to reissue this album at the proper speed, with the complete track listing.

The cover art for the CD I have is a horrible photoshop job with blue tones. The cover art pictured above is the back cover photo from Kim's 1986 "Lighthouse" album. The original cover is very 1970s, with a very young looking Kim.

Final thoughts on this one: Probably a good album, a shame about the disrespect it was given in its reissue."
