CD Reviews

Good but not his best.
James Penney | Pa. | 12/08/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a good King Diamond album, but it's not his best like he said. Sorry I love King diamond except when he gets too Satanic, which he does not on this album. However I must say like it is! This is the only time I've been critical of King. The first song on "give me your soul please", a cool name for an album, rips off badly the riff from Judas Priest's Painkiller song, that's not good. Listen to it yourself it's the same riff only slightly slower. I also heard on either the Puppet Master or another recent album a riff was ripped, just one riff on each album. This is way not like the King who always been an original incredible writer. Where is Michael Denner when you need him! It's not that Mike Weed is not a great player it's just Denner or even Sherman had way more influence on the writing and sound of the albums they contributed to! Andy and Mike play great on this very good yet scarred album. In my opinion The King just could some help or influence from his old friends from Fate days, even on his solo work. I mean in the music direction mainly. The songs have great lyrics but lack in the quality exibited by King in the past. Cool Female vocals though that's a nice touch! The guitars frame the song more than drive it like in the past, where's the riffs and more leads! This is a King Diamond Album not classical. I prefer faster stuff from the heavy artists and detest what Metallica did to trash metal in the 90's. However, its' another very good if slightly flawed effort from the awesome King."
