CD Reviews

My favorite album of the 80s!

"I never even saw King on MTV, but I did see the video for "Love and Pride" between films on HBO during the winter of '85. That was all it took to hook me. Let me tell you, that is NOT EVEN the best song on here! "Fish", "Trouble", "Won't You Hold My Hand Now" are ALL fabulous! What saddens me is that a year or so ago, CDNow offered this CD as an import for under $, then it was removed from inventory and now suddenly reappears for sale by someone seriously trying to take advantage of the situation. What a shame! Paul King was a founding member of Mungo Jerry, recording that classic "In the Summertime" (He's the one on bango/kazoo/harmonica). After leaving Mungo Jerry, he formed the groups "The King Earl Boogie Band", then later, "Reluctant Stereotypes" (a ska band). The band, "King" had 2 releases: "Steps In Time", and "Bitter Sweet". Paul King had 2 solo LPs as well, "Been In the Pen Too Long" (while still in Mungo Jerry), and 1987's "Joy", then spent some time playing Vee-Jay on MTV. In all his incarnations, he proves to be a brilliant and versatile writer/composer. These days, he works as a producer with other artists (such as Ludacris). It's safe to say that he is TRULY underated. "Steps In Time" is a masterpiece! It needs to be released again on CD!!!"
An 80's Classic!

"King had one thing going for him - talent. If you think this is just another 80's New Wave album, you are mistaken. Just listen to the Fish reprise. Paul King's voice and piano show the backbone of all of his music. He was one of the first to blur the line between New Wave, dance, and rock. A must-have CD!"
Im so happy to see this classic on cd!

"Looking for an album that winds the clock bacwards into eigthies youth? This is the one! Back to a time when fashion was fun and everybody seemed to get a chance to sing their hearts out. King was no exception, This guy could wail!!! His lyrics are a perfect example of 80's style. I played this alblum over and over and over...well you get my point. ENJOY"
