. . . and you thought electronica was cutting edge.

"This album wowed me. From the the first track, Dub From the Roots, I was hooked. King Tubby's ability to alter the typical reggae sound into something darker and more ambient would impress me if if was being done today. What amazes me is that this was done in the mid-70's!He can take a track, alter the tempo, distort the bass, crank the highs up four or five notches, and then add some spacey effects of his own. When this culminates, you lose yourself in an island sound that no longer feels so bouncy and warm. Instead you feel as if you're drifting in the caribbean of some other dimension. If you like reggae, but sometimes want something less earthy or if you like electronica, but want to groove to something that makes you dream of lounging in the hot sun, buy this album."
