"I got into Kitchens of Distinction after reading references that related them to The Chameleons,my fave band ever.I downloaded a random songs and was inmediately hooked.Some songs are absolutely incredible, like opener What Happens Now ,Smiling, On tooting broadway station.I ordered my cd from Holland,it was difficult to find and it cost 7 ridiculous ?(about 8 bucks), the best 7? i`ve ever spent in a cd.

First,the guitar...Julian Swales is a genius, a sound sorcerer.His style is unique,i think it can`t be imitated.Layers of sound combined with melodies in a way it is hard to believe that comes out of just one guitar...The pedals he uses create a sound that Mr The Edge just could dream of.

Second...the lyrics...almost all the lyrics handle the topic love sex and relationships,but the fact is that they are poetic,raw,beautiful and intense as no other band can deliver.

Third...the drums...Dan Goodwin drum fills and solid beat ,the way he plays can turn the rythm section into a melodic instrument.Check out(Mad As Snow).

This cd is worth every penny you spend in it if you`re looking for psychedelic progressive rock.The singer`s voice reminds too often to michael stipe or richard butler (psychedelic furs),too nasal,something i don`t appreciate too much,if they`d had a vocalist like the verve`s richard ashcroft this band would have been one of the greatest ever,but nobody`s perfect...

5 stars all the way!"

"Distant memories of the 90s always has nuances of "Death of Cool" and the previous two albums which are almost as good by less than 3 percent.



KoD never got the recognition they deserved even after this FLAWLESS of recordings was glorified by every critic at the time.



"Death of Cool" is not only one of the best titles for an album, it's also one of the best ethereal rock albums ever created.



Patrick Fitzgerald's melodic voice, Julian Swales manic and beautiful guitar playing and Dan Goodwin's thunderous drums bring the heart-breaking lyrics to vivacious life.



It's lush, grandious and aurally breath-taking. You'll love this if you're a big fan of The Chameleons, The Beatles, 24 Gone and a little of King Crimson.



Buy it at any cost!"

KOD's Most Cohesive Release

"My favorite as well, and I stretch back 19 years with them. There is a fluid progression not only to each song, but also in their arrangement in the CD's running order. If you've never heard KOD, this is a good place to start, as "Love Is Hell", though loaded with savory singles, is to my ears almost precisely that, a singles collection, and "Strange Free World", while containing the lushly arranged "Drive that Fast", and brilliantly melancholy "Quick as Rainbows", didn't quite possess an overall organic flow. "The Death of Cool" is more than the sum of its singles ("4 Men", "Breathing Fear", and "When in Heaven"), each of those tracks joining snugly with the ones that both preceded and followed them ('What Happens Now", "On Tooting Broadway Station", "Gone World Gone", and "Mad as Snow". Get this CD; its a great place to start."
