"I suppose this is a historically important CD since it unites two of Klemperer's final recordings with a German orchestra. It is also a unique look into an idiosyncratic side of his musicianship, especially with regards to Mendelssohn. Here he offers his "corrected" version of the coda to the last movement in Mendelssohn's 3rd "Scottish" symphony which were based on some alternative sketches composed by Mendelssohn himself. Both this symphony and Schubert's 8th "Unfinished" symphony are played with ample warmth and brilliance by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO). Although neither performance is a primary recommendation, fans of Klemperer and the BRSO will not be disappointed with this recording."
Powerful Recordings!

"Every time I hear these recordings I am forced to stop what I am doing and listen. Klemperer has always been able elicit a great amount of power from orchestras playing the German composers; here Schubert sounds impressive and demanding where I used to always find him just so-so, and Mendelssohn too seems to be lifted out of his classical entrapments and given voice to his romantic heart. Maybe these recordings are only for Klemperer fans, but they display a great conductor making great music regardless! A real testament to Klemperer's heart and skills. Very highly recommended."
