"When my husband and I got together we had very different tastes in music. My taste ran towards folk, punk, rock and classical, his ran towards classic rock and country. We only had a few overlaps of favorites. Kris was one of those overlaps. Me and Bobby McGee was always a favorite song of mine, and he absolutely won my heart with the way he stood up for Sinéad O'Connor after the SNL scandal. I have a deep respect for both the man and the music which doesn't always happen together.
This album is deeply personal. It's loving, hopeful and political. It's the album I think best represents the man himself. His love for his family, his horror at some of the stories in the news, standing up for what you believe in the face of adversity even when it would be so much easier to go with a popular viewpoint as well. He mentions his heroes, both living and dead.
His voice is pure Kris. He makes the most of what he has, singing plainly and clearly. I trust his voice, it's a quiet calm without reaching for perfect notes, letting the song and the music speak for themselves.
People tend to think of his music as country, but I always thought it had a universal appeal and was more folk than country. He is one of the best singer-songwriters around."
