Product DescriptionKristian Hoffman is perhaps best known for writing the pop hits such
as 'Total Eclipse' for 80's mutant disco legend, Klaus Nomi. He was
also the main songwriter for the highly regarded CBGBs era pop/punk
band Mumps, which included Lance Loud, notorious gay son from
PBS award winning 'An American Family', on vocals. Kristian has
been musical director for Rufus Wainwright and Ann Magnuson,
whose last CD 'Pretty Songs And Ugly Stories' he co-wrote and produced.
He toured for 5 years as keyboardist for the Kinks' Dave Davies, and has played in bands with Kid Congo Powers, Abby Travis, and Lydia Lunch. He is currently known for his classic pop songcraft -
Rolling Stone called him 'one of the underground's best songsmiths',
and the L.A. Weekly called his last solo CD '&' 'Frighteningly Excellent!
It's the record that every fan of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Kinks and great songcraft in general has been pining for.'
His new album 'Fop' is an ambitious step forward from his last album,
'&'. 'I wanted to make the biggest, most grandiose album I possibly
could as an independent artist. I see it as a combination of Bowie's
'Ziggy Stardust' and the Moody Blues' 'Days of Future Passed'. It's
sort of a gender-indeterminate fantastically appointed love letter to the
apocalypse - candy-colored lifestyle suggestions for the end of the
world.' Self produced, but with the amazing mixing and engineering
skills of his long-time collaborator, Earle Mankey, 'Fop' puts the lace
cuffs onto everything from orchestrated Richard Harris bombast to Cramps-tinged garage fuzz, with a few nods to glam and vaudeville on the way.
