Synopsis

Album Description
Kylie auldist's 2008 debut 'just say' was labelled one of the albums of the year by several tastemakers including mark lamarr. This second album, 'made of stone', is a sizzling collection of original, grown-up soul/pop with warm, retro-inspired funk, mod & reggae flavours complementing the razor-sharp musicianship, clean production and kylie's incisive lyrical voice; once again produced by tru thoughts labelmate lance ferguson (lanu/the bamboos). Kylie is backed all the way by the bamboos, with whom she has been recording and touring since before she launched her solo career, and who are often held up with sharon jones' dap kings as one of the world's best deep funk bands.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown, Kylie Auldist and her backing band brings that magical concotion that brings music to life. I'm going to make up a new genre... NeoSoul. That's the best way that I can describe her sound. An incredibly powerful and soulful voice coupled with an exceptional band that isn't afraid to play loop-induced funk grooves is just what the doctor ordered.

In an age of hyper-produced power-pop sillyness, Kylie Auldist brings that down and dirty sound that I've been missing for a long time. I feel like this is something special that I missed out of a Motown music collection. This is a rare gem that will stop even the most cynical audiophile."
