"One of the best-known disco divas of the late Eighties and early Nineties dance music scene, KYM MAZELLE's earliest musical ambition was to train as an opera singer. After leaving Missouri University, KYM studied opera at the Mundelein College of Music in Chicago.
The world of opera's potential loss was dance music's great gain, and KYM MAZELLE is now recognised as being one of the best exponent of dance/pop music in Europe, thanks to hit singles like Wait (which reached the top 10), Got To Get You Back, Missing You, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) which she duetted with fellow diva Jocelyn Brown, and her fantastic cover of Young Hearts Run Free.
KYM MAZELLE was brought up in Gary, Indiana, just several doors away from where a young up-and-coming singing-and-dancing group called The Jackson Five also lived.
As a kid she already had ambitions to be a singer and was often found by her mother singing along to Aretha Franklin's records. However it wasn't until after quitting her opera studies in the mid-Eighties that KYM finally embarked upon a professional pop career.
KYM initially found herself a job working at DJ International Records and subsequently met up with Marshall Jefferson who produced her first two singles, Taste My Love and I'm A Lover, both released in early 1988.
Later that year she had her first U.K. chart hit when Useless (I Don' Need You Now) made the top 75, and two months later in January 1989 her recording of Wait with Robert Howard reached number 7 and had a ten-week chart-run.
That same year KYM toured Europe with Ten City and also secured another couple of hits, Got To Get You Back which climbed to number 29, and Love Strain which peaked at number 52. She also released her first album, Crazy, on Syncopate Records. KYM chalked up a further three chart hits during 1990, Was That All It Was (number 33), a re-mix of her debut hit Useless (I Don't Need You Now) (number 48) and Missing You (number 22). The latter recording teamed KYM with Soul II Soul, with whom she co-wrote the song, and also worked with on their world tour.
In 1991 KYM signed to EMI's Parlophone label and released a new album, Brilliant!!, which included remixes of many of the songs featured on the Crazy album. Classics like Useless, Love Strain and Was That All It Was were given the remix treatment by top U.S. mixers David Morales, C&C Music Factory and Steve Hurley, and the album also included the hit single No One Can Love You More Than Me (originally recorded by The Weather Girls) which featured Jocelyn Brown on backing vocals.
In 1993 KYM started writing with The Rapino Brothers and it resulted in yet another hit single, Love Me The Right Way, which reached number 22 in the U.K., and was also a hit throughout Europe, as well as being a club smash in the United States.
In 1994 KYM returned to the U.K. charts via two duets recorded with her old pal Jocelyn Brown. A revamp of the old Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer hit No More Tears (Enough Is Enough), produced by the top team of Mike Stock and Matt Aitken, reached number 13 and was followed by another Stock-Aitken production, Gimme All Your Lovin' (previously a hit for ZZ Top) which made the top 30.
KYM has continued to record and perform throughout Europe, and 1995 saw the release of her European pop-dance hit Love Me Or Leave Me, written and recorded with the Italian production team Kamasutra.
The following year, KYM MAZELLE was features on the highly successful soundtrack to 1996's Romeo+Juliet with Young Hearts Run Free. KYM recorded this song a while ago. All of a sudden it was connected with the film, the single got more and more publicity and everything blew up. Young Heart Run Free was riveted to the charts for weeks.
1996. KYM MAZELLE recorded Big Baby that changed the U.K. Underground scene. MJ Cole's first ever remix in the U.K. Garage style, this track blew up along with its re-pressed counterpart Quality released in 1997.
1998. Kym Mazelle is living proof that you can't keep a true talent down. Having recorded many of the last decade's club anthems, KYM MAZELLE returns to the dance scene this summer with her new single A Place In My Heart. This new song is shaping up to be yet another hit, and features great mixes from Todd Terry, Nick Nice, Dj Phenix, Jerk work (Raul Rincon & Dip T Jones) and a UK exclusive mix from ATM, which are sure to be massive in the clubs and on radio.
In 2000, KYM MAZELLE is back as the lead vocal for Sunray on a high-flying magnificent slice of pure disco bliss called Perhaps. It's a remake of an old Doris Day song. KYM and company turned it into one of this season's hottest club contenders. In addition to a state-of-the-art Almighty remix, there's also a hot and housey Junior Jack remix for your consideration. Both treatments are hot, and both let KYM's spectacular vocal fireworks shine throughout.
Drum & Bass jazzman Peshay has teamed up with Flytronix, house gurus Farley & Healer and soulful vocalist KYM MAZELLE to rock the house on Truly, released on January 31, 2000. The Peshay & Flytronix hard step mix is tuffer than hardened steel with an industrial strengh rolling bass line. Flashes of light are added with a bouncy percussion part, orchestra stabs, guitar and vocal samples. Terry Farley and Pete Healer are on the case with two vocal mixes and two deep dubs, all given a fresh deep house touch in their own inimitable style. Rich sounding kick drums pound beneath KYM MAZELLE's heartfelt vocal, synths bubble and the tune pulses and grooves in sensual abandon.
2003. What a return! Our diva KYM MAZELLE is on top again with another masterpiece! "Feel Like Dancin" is a quality house bit produced by the Italian duo HOUSE BROS. (Composed by PAGANY & MELEGA) with hot lyrics that celebrate the house music.
