CD ReviewsBeen Waiting for this..... Joshua Alumbaugh | South Dakota, USA | 03/05/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "I have been hyped up over the release of the "Telephone" single from the "Fame Monster". There are so many mixed feelings over this single, either you hate it or you love it. I am hear to tell you that I love the song and the remixes are amazing. You will not be disappointed with the purchase of this single, there is something for everyone! Keep up the excellent work Gaga!!!" The Telephone Remixes are off the hook! Jeff M | Dallas, TX | 03/07/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "This remix album maybe pricey (but cheaper than iTunes) but I like all the remixes! You will not be disappointed!" Please hang up and try again Braden Pickering | Maricopa, AZ | 04/02/2010 (3 out of 5 stars) "Of the 8 songs on The Fame Monster EP, Telephone is by far my least favorite and I was really disappointed to learn that it was chosen as the second single after the magnificent Bad Romance. As far as I'm concerned it's the one glaring blemish on an otherwise perfect and amazing masterpiece of a record. It just seems like, for as original and unique as Lady Gaga usually is (or tries to be), she's totally going against her own principles by hopping on the "let's feature a popular R&B star in every song so we can get airplay on crappy American radio" bandwagon. Not that I have anything against Beyonce; I think she has penned some pretty good songs of her own. Nevertheless, in this case she adds that clichéd touch of ghetto-ness that doesn't usually mix too well with standard pop music. It's actually quite embarrassing all around, especially since their target audience probably has no idea what a telephone is anymore or why you would want to talk on one, much less sing about it. Gaga once said that she originally wrote this song for Britney Spears some time ago, so I'm guessing that explains the lowered standards here.
BUT having said all that, I must also give credit where credit is due. Clocking in at just over 50 minutes total, the nine remixes presented here do actually manage to breathe new life into an otherwise lackluster song, which I'm happily surprised about. While some of the tracks don't stray too far from the original and come off as forgettable/generic club beats with electronically altered vocals looped over and over again (Alphabet Extended Mix, DJ Dan Extended Vocal Mix), I was drawn more towards the "experimental" mixes, like the Crookers Vocal Remix which features Beyonce almost exclusively and does justice to her style of singing, and the Electrolights Remix which sounds like the soundtrack to a 1980's arcade game. (I wasn't quite sure what to make of the Passion Pit Remix in which Lady Gaga sounds like she's on helium, lol.) Anyway, I haven't purchased a maxi-single with this much variety in quite a while. It's just too bad there wasn't a piano/acoustic version included, but I suppose that would have interrupted the high energy flow of the CD. In the end, while I still believe Telephone was a poor choice for a single release, I have to admit the production and packaging of it all was more than generous and collectors like myself should be satisfied overall. I figure it all balances out to about a 3-star rating. Plus now that we have this one out of the way, with the songs from Fame Monster that are left to choose from, the next single has no choice but to be brilliant!" |
