CD Reviews

Shatter Your Skull Like Glass
Joel Israel | Cedar City, UT United States | 11/16/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Oh Yeah!!!This is what happens when you play too much Dungeons and Dragons and mom buys you a guitar to encourage you to "make some new friends". This is what happens when Mastodon meets Slayer and gets regurgitated on a harcover copy of Finch's Mythology. This is what happens when an amp is pushed so far that the knobs melt into smoking blobs of stinking black tar, and it's oscillating waves of distortion create a huge shockwave blowing down houses in a 1/2-mile radius, bursting the eardrums and liquefying the internal organs of all hapless onlookers. The heaviest, most abrasive, and most FUN metal album I've heard in years. + 4 flaming broadsword not included....."

"These guys rule! If your into MASTODON, HIGH ON FIRE, SLAYER, CELTIC FROST or any heavy bands that go all out and are just heavy as shiz you need to hear LOTM cuz they are just as heavy and good as any of em'... these guys are straight up just a Heavy Metal band, and I do mean HEEEEEEVVVVVVYYYYYY!! No gimmicks, no BS, just a bad ass band... support the underground! Cult of The Wolf Baby!!"
Speed Metal "Clash of the Titans"

"This album is pretty cool. Upon quick listens, it's immediately obvious there are riffs gallore straight from the book of Slayer... the harshness also calls to mind early Helmet, Celtic Frost and even a bit of the Cro-Mags on some songs.

The Greek Mythology themes prevalent in lyrical content might add or subtract fans; it's hard to say. I hope Mastadon's success with a novel adaptation doesn't spark a goofy trend in literature-thrash-metal epic albums. Regardless, this band is so gosh-darn brutal they could be transposing Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie and it wouldn't matter. The end result is still a Bulldozer in a China Shop.

Lastly the album sports some VERY cool artwork too, which is always a plus in my book."
