CD ReviewsA Moment. WILLIE A YOUNG II | Houston, TX. | 09/17/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "While her 1990 debut was a total surprise to most lovers of comtemporary soul, there was something slightly amiss with the production. The ballads sparkled and were even touching in most cases, but the faster material was subpar at best and kept the album from reaching truly classic status. On this 1994 followup, that problem has been corrected brilliantly. From the opener, "Let Me Love You" to the Chuckii Booker produced "Bad By Myself" and an updated version of the Sly Stone classic "Family Affair", the upbeat tunes here are a huge step forward. The heavy-funkin', bass synth groove of "Lean On Me" is a personal favorite, but the crown jewel here is the smoldering, jazz inflected ode to infidelity "Do You Suppose", one of her finest vocal performances ever and featuring great instrumental support from Saxophonist Branford Marsalis and Drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, this song will leave you breathless, for it's depiction of a woman's seeming indifference to her husband's unfaithfulness is not at all trite or exploitive, this is truly grown folk's music. Overall, "A Moment" is quite satisfying on every level and for an LP released nearly a decade ago, it has aged very well. This is a nice addition to any soul/R&B/jazz collection. Worth seeking out." Great second album Sinitta | Germany | 12/11/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Lalah is one of my favourite soulsingers. She has a warm and smooth voice. Her second album is not as much jazz as her first one. It's more pop and dance...a bit like a Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis production. It's of high quality and songs like "Lean on me" and "Rise" are very catchy." A Deep voice, with a soprano soul Claudia Junious | Phila.,PA,USA | 03/30/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "This CD was one of my prizes from a local radio station. Before that I never heard of Lalah. Her voice is a true treasure. It's a little low key, but she can harmonize so beautifully. I love every single song on this album. I believe she is in the top three of my favorite female singers. I love this LP, and can't wait until I can purchase it again."
