"That borders on classical music, it's so smooth? This may be the album whose cover you see next to the definition when you look UP the phrase "cool jazz that borders on classical music" in the encyclopedia!



Lalo Schifrin's people here produce such a tuneful, sophisticated and just plain PRETTY sound, it's not legal! The "Playboy After Dark" theme could EASILY be replaced by the manly, but easygoing "The Wig" and you'll love the tune "Troubador". It's probably the most lilting thing on the album! This is music to drive a Ferrari by!



One piece seems a little out of place, but nonetheless is a fine example of its type: "Beneath The Weeping Willow Shade", which has vocal accompaniment and a Ian Anderson-ish flute backup. In fact, this whole album is very reminiscent of Jean-Pierre Rampal's "Suite For Flute & Jazz Piano Trio", since the flute figures very prominently in just about every piece.



Mix up a good G&T, cuddle up with your "Bond girl" type gf, sit back and drink in the Herman Miller furniture in your living room, and pop this baby into your CD/DVD player....it'll take you right back to the early sixties and the heyday of the buttoned-down minds of Rod Serling, Hugh Hefner, Mort Sahl and Johnny Carson...



I guarantee you you will fall in love with this great orchestrated jazz album!"

Need to find that old good cassetes of a magnificent compose

"When I was a child, I (and my brother) used to listen three Lalo Schifrin cassetes that I think superb.



Those cassetes are a treasure. They show Lalo Schifrin at one of his best composition periods.



I was able to find out that one of these cassetes is now in CD format. This is one of them. Listen the sample track of Old Laces in another CD (Talkin' Verve). Of course, some compositions are better than others.



The only problem is that this CD is a bit expensive.

"My fav Schifrin album (yes Bullit comes 2nd). This is the definitive Jazz meets Baroque music. Very typical 1966 sound. As usual, an all star cast to support the master: Jerome Richardson plays the flute, Grady Tate on drums, Clark Terry, JJ Johnson, Kai Winding, Urbie Green...Give it a try (especially if you already dig Loussier plays Bach albums) and realize that YES an harpsichord can be grooooovy.

This one had been reissued in Japan but apparatnly it's OOP again. Dont wait, grab those last Verve limited edition ones available in Market place. If i had to keep 1 cd in my entire collection, Sade would be the one!!!! Honestly"
