Leo Sowerby (1895-1968), who won the Pulitzer Prize in music in 1946, was probably America?s greatest composer for the organ. His genius lay in his ability to fuse American individuality and expression with traditional European forms. With clear forms and experimental harmonies, Sowerby composed for both concert hall and cathedral, taking full advantage of the American Classic organ. Organist Robert Parris was featured recitalist at Disney Hall during the 2004 American Guild of Organists convention in Los Angeles, and he will once again be a soloist at the AGO conference in Chicago in July 2006. The recital reveals the wide range of music possible on this organ, from Baroque to American classical.« less
