"Recorded in two days in January 1971 just four months after Jimi Hendrix's death, this live Larry Coryell album is sort of a tribute to Hendrix's playing style. Coryell stretches out here and plays an amazing mix of jazz and heavy rock riffs- the level of musicianship is astounding. This is one of the ten best live albums ever released. One of my favorites for the past 25 years. The CD sounds very good, just like the original vinyl album if not better."

"Larry is a favorite ...his work prior to 1974 is for me is his finest...the music is raw and alive and is more along the lines of hard rock than jazz.
Village Gate as indicated in another review is a Hendrix inspired live album with great guitar...Larry's tone is super and his command of wah-wah is second to none! As indicated above I prefer his work prior to 1974 as it has a more live feel ( even the studio work ) and is really just bass, drums and guitar which I always prefer.... as it is rock influenced big time!!....the songs are great and the entire album is strong ...buy it before it is gone forever!"
