CD ReviewsA neglected gem Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 08/10/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Larry Gatlin was always a brilliant country singer-songwriter - Elvis Presley was among those who covered his songs - but by the time this album came out in the late eighties, the public had moved on to other artists. Thus, this brilliant album was largely ignored.
Ably supported by Rudy and Steve on harmony vocals, Larry sings a selection of love songs, all of which he wrote. Some are of unbridled happiness and joy (When she holds me, Go or stay, Going around in circles) while others are of sadness and despair (#1 heartache place Needless to say). The saddest song of all (Rain) is about a man dying in the rain having lost the will to live, yet the overall mood of the album is upbeat. With three other great songs (If love won't heal you lady, Your door, Healing storm) this is a wonderful album. Although the musician credits include synthesizer, marimba and conga (not standard on country albums), the credits also include dobro, mandolin and pedal steel. Overall, this a solid country album with a gospel flavor to it that every fan of Larry Gatlin and his brothers will enjoy." |
