"I have the original issue CD on the Universal Music label,

11-11-1992. This CD has a different issue date, different cover pic, different label,(Polygram) and completely different track layout and missing tracks.(Universal=15 tracks, Polygram=12). The original tracks were: 1.It's Crazy 2.How Did He Look 3.Let There Be Love 4.Close Enough For Love 5.The End Of A Love Affair 6.Bewitched, Bothered, And Bewildered 7.I wish You Love 8.You've Changed 9.I Only Have Eyes For You 10.A Mark On Your Mind 11.I Love You For Sentimental Reasons 12.Maybe September 13.Do It Again 14.More Love 15.Les Feuilles Mortes.

What in the world is going on here?

My CD is a bit beat up,(I've played it so much), and I can't find another copy anywhere. Can anyone help?"

"Unparalleled smoothness from a very talented singer, regardless of the version of the release - and there are apparently several out there. I have two - one released on Verve Forecast, 1993, called "Bewitched" (a USA version), and one entitled "Introducing Laura Fygi" on Mercury, 1991 (apparently a European version). Both have the same cover photo of Laura, but do not share the back photo. The Verve release contains 12 tracks, the Mercury 15 tracks, but between the two, only share 5 of the same songs - Dream a Little Dream, Willow Weep For Me, Good Morning Heartache, Girl Talk, and Just One Of Those Things. From all indications "Bewitched" is more than likely an outtake of the original Ruud Jacobs produced 1991 Mercury sessions, tailored for USA release - even the photos look as if they could have been shot at the same time - that's my opinion, anyway.

Regardless of its origins, "Bewitched" is absolutely sublime if what you seek is really smooth jazz. Including such stellar jazz greats as Toots Thielemans, Johnny Griffin, and Clark Terry, every song has that timeless quality of "cool" - the convincing sense that each musician is tracking the mood in unison, perfectly creating an effortless flow that has enough improvisation to stay interesting, but enough restraint to stay centered on Laura's exquisite voice. Too many standouts to list, it is truly a great tribute to Laura that she can take songs that have been done repeatedly over the years and deliver each with a fresh sense of discovery. This is one disc that true vocal jazz lovers will not want to miss."
