Product DescriptionNamed after the great jazz musican and band leader, Ben Pollack, this new Cantilena Records release "Pollack Plays Jazz" shares a similar device of featuring a small group, a duo in this instance, featured upfront to play some very hot and innovative, hybrid music. Combining the strengths of classical, jazz and rock music this recording will offer the listener music to think about. Ben Pollack who had been a member of the New Orleans Rhythm Kings was a popular band-leader during the 1920s and 1930s. Among his well-respected sidemen were Jack Teagarden, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, who also were successful jazz leaders of their day. It was Ben Pollack who made the device of placing a small group of musicians in front of the larger band and featuring the small group playing very hot jazz. With a "play on words" the original cover art of this recording "Pollack Plays Jazz" hopes to pay a respectful tribute to the innovative artist/painter of the 20th century Jackson Pollock.
