Synopsis

Album Description
Limited CD/DVD edition includes a bonus DVD that contains behind the scenes footage, videos, a liver performance and more. 2009 album from the Grammy Award-nominated vocalist featuring songs produced by Raphael Saadiq, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Chief XCel, Chucky Thompson, Rex Rideout and others. Although Ledisi was a seasoned artist before joining Verve, she says she is still finding herself musically. Turn Me Loose is a turning point in her artistic evolution. "During the making of this record, I was asking myself, 'How do I maintain the listeners I have now and be myself as I today? That was the struggle. But I knew I needed to stretch myself and be more open to different people." Features the first single 'Goin' Thru Changes'.

CD Reviews

Ever-changing and bubbling with welcome surprise
M. Bell | Atlanta, GA | 08/19/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ledisi, the once independent little engine that could, keeps going and going. Her growth in music is ever-changing and bubbling with welcome surprise. Now a major player in the game, "Turn Me Loose" is her first collaboration with a varied group of talented and successful producers (Raphael Saadiq, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Chief XCel, Chucky Thompson, Rex Rideout). They bring "it" (their creative force) to further enhance the musicianship of Ledisi. This project demonstrates that Ledisi is not just a Gospel, Jazz, R&B or Pop artist. In truth, she is a singer/song writer who encompasses all genres.

Rather than singling out a particular favorite track of mine on this grade "A" CD,

I will just close in saying I love the whole thing from its' slamming start to its' engaging finish.

It's Obvious She's Trying Something New

"I only listened to this cd twice and I could tell that she was trying a new sound. It's a little more fast paced than her last album. I give her brownie points for trying to be versatile as an artist. That's ok, but I think she went a little overboard. There's way too many producers and songwriters which causes the album to seem all over the place. There's no real cohesiveness to this album because of all of the different personalities that put this album together. She should have stuck with a certain crew and got the creative juices flowing and perhaps tha album would seem more personal. Ledisi is an excellent singer, but she "screams" just a little too much on this album. That may be because she was excited about this project. In the end, the album is a keeper for me and is a treasure for true Ledisi fans and neo-soul lovers."
A Wonderful Musical Journey

"TML is an homage to the way music people listened to music back in the day, before Clear Channel and other huge radio conglomerates decided that folks could only digest one type of music at a time. It harkens to a period of time when people could listen to Sly & the Family Stone, Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, James Brown, the Beatles, Motown and Dionne Warwick on the same station and love each song.

We've been so programmed to only listen to certain genres of music and for me, "Turn Me Loose" is a breath of fresh air. It's bold, yet sensitive, in your face and chill, funky and poppy, old school and fresh/new. It's the way we are as humans beings in terms of how we feel at any given time, on any given day. The musicianship, production and flow are stellar. The singing, omg! Ledisi is singing like she sings in her live sets and it's electric and exciting.

I absolutely love this CD and highly recommend it to anyone who loves music and is open to change..."
