Still Sounds Great

"After hearing the recent tribute compilation Total Lee! which is quite mesmerizing, I decided to pick up this CD to see what Hazlewood is doing today.
For Every Solution is a little more country than I expected, but after a couple of listens, I started to enjoy it for what it is.
I won't natter on about Lee's past accomplishments, they are well known. I will say that after more than 40 years in the business that he sounds great and that this CD stands tall among his best.
I like Dirtnap Stories, especially the line about dying on Christmas before all the gifts are open. A little macabre, but funny nonetheless. Other favorites are the sexy Your Thunder and Your Lightning, the wry Buying Back, the 50s-sounding throwback Suddenly Tennessee, the clever Dolly Parton's Guitar and the innuendo-laden For My Birthday (as well as the liner notes for it with Lee's implausible explanation for the acronyms POA and BJ).
Long-time collaborator Al Casey provides excellent guitar work to accompany Lee on these songs. For Every Solution is a great CD for alt-country fans or for those curious about what Lee is up to these days. I recommend it!"
