"Not many people have heard of Lee Michaels. However, he is a very talented musician. In a way, he is like Todd Rundgren. His piano playing is great. In this album, he puts in a few funky rhythms, which really get things moving. "Mad Dog" is a classic. It's solid. If you like piano, or the hammond organ, or just classic rock, you'll like Lee Michaels. I definately recommend this album as well as Fifth. In that album, his most played song, "Do you know what I mean," is on it. Buy it. You can't go wrong. Oh yea, it's cheap too. So what the hell, get it. It's top knotch."

"First came out when I was in my early 20's - loved it then and it sure floods back with memories hearing it. It's a bit dated (70's) and What Now America was a song about the disgust the young people felt about the Vietnam war. I always loved Ummm my Lady.What a great find on Amazon!"

"BARREL, as an album, was a fabulous grouping of songs that showed Lee settling in to a comfortable musical setting much like the comfortable woodsy setting of his Northern California home recording studio as shown on the front of the album jacket.



"Day Of Change" was prophetic, too, in that the music culture was sitting at the precipice of change on the "day" that this recording was hitting our American streets. The song is haunting and driving at the same time. If you listen to the panning of the delay on the Hammond organ, it makes us remember what it was like to actually be entertained by the music we bought. It was interesting to listen to, as well as making a statement through the music.



Ah, Lee was right. We really did face a "day of change". And if it were "for the better", I'd be hard pressed to be able to explain why so much of the music sold today is about music that was created 30-40 years ago. Which brings me to my final point:



LEE!!! I bought this album in its vinyl state 3 times trying to get the cleanest copy possible. I bought 3 of your other albums when they finally came out on CD through One Way Records back in the 1990's. But I failed to get BARREL. It now sells "used" on Amazon for $149. Will you please find a way to get this album, and your whole catalogue, out on the CD format once again? Even though this album is available on the MP3 format, many of us will pay to have the "hard copy" disc and booklet.



PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, before we grow too old to have ears that work anymore, get those recordings remastered, peak limited, and new booklets!!! We WILL pay the money for songs that still reach a place deep inside."
