Lee Rocker's aggressive attack on the stand-up bass and the drummer's light touch on the trap drums create a slippery, snappy rhythm, and Rocker's full-bodied low tenor glides gracefully above that pulse. Though all the songs are clearly rooted in the Kansas City/Memphis blues style of the '40s and '50s (Rocker produced the album in Memphis), 10 of the 13 numbers are originals written by the band. Whether they're infectiously happy tales of newfound love (such as "Till It Hurts" or "Hear You Moan") or why-me-lord laments of lost love (such as "Ain't No Way" or "How Long"), the songs boast catchy melodies and grooves as deep as the tradition they draw upon. What I was not ready for was the strong and clear voice of Lee Rocker. Did he ever sing lead or write a song in the Cats? If not ..why not? This CD stayed in my player and has not left for 4 weeks. It makes the demise of the Cats easier, when we now have 2 good bands from the breakup. I am off to look for Rockers other Big Blue CD and the solo NO Cats.." Big Blue is also the name of the crack instrumental unit backing Rocker here, showing their adeptness at all of the aforementioned styles, especially on "Till It Hurts" and "The Hucklebuck." Although Brian Setzer seems to get all of the attention, Lee Rocker's Big Blue is more deserving of the accolades. A delight..."
