CD Reviews

One of their best
Noel Pratt | Washington, D.C., and better places | 10/12/2005

"Sublime stuff here. There's nothing like the first 7 or so songs in terms of enticing melody and rhythmplay and lyric. They're allowed to fade out w/ a couple of ambient pieces toward the end of the album, but in about 18 Dots CDs I own, this is the one I'd take to the grave."
One of the best LPD albums

"The last two tracks are listed wrong. Their actual titles are:9. Prague Spring
10. Leper Colony

I believe the early nineties are the Dots best period. Especially the duo Shadow Weaver / Malachai is really awesome. While Malachai is very experimental and not for the new LPD listener, Shadow Weaver is somewhat more accessible."Zero Zero" is a track with emphasis on drums and vocals.
It's a great opening, typically Dots, but not too experimental.
One of the highlights of the album."Guilty Man" is a great track, but a little too long in my opinion (too much repetition)."Ghosts of Unborn Children" is a quiet, kinda spooky track which sends shivers down my spine."City of Needles" is another highlight. A very haunting track with weird noises and driving drums and guitar. It's kinda like a nightmare on music."Stitching Time" is a melancholic piece with focus on vocals and violin. Ed's voice is really getting me here, this track is very emotional and goes very deep. A grower."Twilight Hour" is one of my least favorite tracks. It's not bad, but compared to the other mindblowing tracks, this doesn't make it."Key to Heaven" is another fine track, a fever dream on music, though not as haunting as City of Needles. Great lyrics again, as always."Laughing Guest" is another of my favorites. First part is acoustic with Niels on flute. Edward's vocals are really emotional and disturbing. This will scare away any mainstream music lover. Second half is instrumental and very psychedelic. Play this with volume high and you'll get blown away."Prague Spring" is a classical instrumenal interlude with violin and piano. Cute."Leper Colony" is probably one of the darkest songs on the album. A lament which you have to be in the mood for.Short: a very psychedelic and sometimes experimental album, but a collection of songs of high quality. Production is also excellent. A must have for anyone who likes the dots."
