"this is a cd i could play all day every day for thr rest of my life.lena horne has the most glorious voice that is enhanced with the lush orchestrations of her husband lennie hayton for many of the songs.her rendition of "paradise"is a gem,her sensual humming makes me melt,ah yes! sensual not these little energiser bunnies parading around in skimpy costumes calling themselves singers, they are little girls, lena is rather obviously a W-O-M-A-N.her yearning vocal on "someone to watch over me" is pure honey.this is one great cd from a very under rated artist."

"If ever there was a fine example of Lena Horne's work, this is the album. I first heard the album as background music at a dinner party, and paid more attention to it rather than to the party banter. Having heard other Lena albums, this one is most captivating, and wonderfully, Lena. The title track,"Love Is The Thing", is fresh and different. "Where or When", a song never on my personal top hits chart, is now in the top ten. But, the jewel of the album is her version of "Darn That Dream"! Wonderfully recorded and produced, with timeless and undated arrangements, the album could have been recorded today."

"Since there isn't much out there from Lena's 50's career this is the only collection available. It finds Miss Horne backed by hot jazz combos on such numers as "Love Is The Thing" and strings for instance on "Fun To Be Fooled." This is an overall satisfying compilation by a fine pop singer, who at times does sing straight ahaed jazz."
LENA HORNE - THEY JUST DON'T MAKE SINGERS LIKE THIS ANYMORE

"I received this exquisite CD as a gift for Christmas. It was worth the search and wait to get "Love Is The Thing". Most of these selections were done for Miss Lena Horne's JVC Jazz Festival at Avery Fisher Hall in June 1994. She IS class ! Her voice at the top of its form, combining jazz and big band. But Lena makes each song her own, an intimate affair with the listener. Miss Horne often introduces the listener to verses rarely heard on the songs. She is equally wonderful at performing the very familiar and making it sound fresh and new. This CD is a MUST for anyone with a collection of jazz CDs, in fact it should be a MUST in any collection of music, period. No one delivers a ballad OR upbeat song like Lena Horne. Her voice is smooth and elegant and sophisticated and fun. Her choice in music in this CD is a tribute to not only Horne's talent but the talent of so many of the great song writers and performers around her. It is clear that Lena Horne knows her way around a good song. (Where have all the talented song stylists gone?) Lena Horne, I think, was one of a kind. Give this CD a place in your collection! It is well crafted, beautifully done, and SIMPLY EXQUISITE!"
