"If you dig the Strata,Tribe,Black Jazz scene this is an amzing CD that should be much better known than it is.Done on flying Dutchman people knew of Thomas from the Pharoah Sanders "The Creator Has A Master Plan".While not possesiong a great vocal range he had buckets of soul.Best known for his vocals on Pharoah Sanders "The Creator Has Master Plan" here he is joinedby a boatload of talent came on to give a hand including Stanley Clarke,Larry Corryell,Pretty Purdie,Pee Wee Ellis,Ceil Payne.Incredible band.they run through:
1. Let's Go Down to Lucy-eon Thomas/Alfred Ellis
2. L-O-V-E-homas
3. Gypsy Queen - Gabor Szabo
4. Love Each Other -Thomas
5. Shape Your Mind to Die-Thomas/Neal Crequet
6. Boom-Boom-Boom - John Lee Hooker
7. China Doll - Leon Thomas/ Alfred Ellis
8. C.C. Rider - Traditional
It is very much of the southern Califronia scene of late 60's (like what was going on with Harold Tapscott and Build and Ark.Now there is great singer Dwight Trible who has modernized the scene with Ark and it's amazing how much they sound alikebothj with a gravely mdeium baritone who (along with Andy Bey who was and is an avante garde vocalist who stuck with it drring 70's when most dropped out of "new thing" scene. So check this out and check Bey and ZTrible if you dig i.This is a solid sender."
