"This is a CD which contains live performances of the old magician and monster of the baton of 1963 and 1964. I can tell, that I never heard such an amazing performance of Shostakovich's Fifth. You'll never stop wondering the depth of his thoughts and the variety of imagination in this piece. Stokowski never puts a definite stamp on the work, he improvises it anew, giving this way a new birth to work and going into the depths of Shostakovich's soul. Perhaps, the greatest definition of Stokowski's Shostakovich performances is the judgement of the composer himself. Shostakovich greatly admired Stokowski's interpretations and considered him one of the greatest conductor of all ages since he was his personal friend.
