2009 collection. The creator of the world-famous Christmas standard 'Sleigh Ride', Leroy Anderson had a vastly cultured musical mind with many facets. A light music genius in the tradition of Victor Herbert and J.P. Sousa, Anderson's melodies drew from and often parodied accepted classical forms, trends in contemporary Jazz and dance, and the works of Gershwin and other popular composers. Certainly far less frequently heard on radio nowadays than not so long ago, a number of Anderson's finely orchestrated compositions, with their lush if often compacted melodies and witty mini-studies of everyday scenes, may still be instantly recognizable even to those who will have forgotten his name. 26 tracks.
