Mountain of talent

"Outstanding compilation covering American hard rock guitarslinger Leslie West's career from the late 60's to mid 70's. While he still performs and releases the occasional CD, "Blood On The Sun" showcases the best of his economical yet muscular blues-rock fretwork (aspiring players--listen and learn!). All of the highlights from his "Mountain" days are here...featuring West's signature song (and one of the greatest "riff" rockers of all time), "Mississippi Queen". There is also a generous helping of music from the underrated, largely forgotten "supergroup" West, Bruce & Laing, with West proving that Clapton wasn't the only guitarist who could hold his own against the formidible talent (and legendary ego) of Cream bassist Jack Bruce. The collection is rounded off with several cuts from the Leslie West Band, the highlight a dynamic version of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Outta This Place". A thoughtfully compiled showcase of an unheralded artist equal to Clapton, Page or Beck."

"Overall a nice change of pace. Leslie West was always a better LIVE performer and his sound On guitar is TONS better than the studio work here! If the studio work was re-mastered and up to todays abilities in the studio I would say Five(5)stars! Check out Theme from a Imaginary Western, and Dreams of Milk and Honey!

P.S. To bad theres only two Live tracks here?Check out MOUNTAIN LIVE 2-cd set made in E.C.Copanhagien.Amsterdam."

"Normally I say that compilations are for amateurs, but this is an exception. I first saw this CD in a public library in Hamden, Connecticut. Having already heard and liked "Mississippi Queen" and being curious about West, Bruce and Laing, I gave this a listen and was thus floored by the killer grooves that Leslie West creates with his guitar. Moreover, some of the West, Bruce And Laing material i.e. "Backfire" and their version of "Politician" are unfortunately unavailable on CD. So definitely buy this anthology!"
