CD Reviews

She finally finds her perfect sound
02/04/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have heard every single one of Husik's albums, and consider myself a good judge of her musical history. She started out doing slow, spare, dreamy pop way in the beginning and she moved on to more upbeat, catchy stuff. Then, she collaborated with Beaumont Hannant and started moving into the electronica territory, which she did so very nicely i might add. Though all the different styles she tested out she did a good job with, she never seemed to be able to decide which one she wanted to settle on to be "her" sound. Well, I think she's finally found it. Here, she marries all the different styles she had previously tried out seamlessly. There's her ethereal, poppy vocals, always beautiful and seductive, and the songs have great melodies, but with an extra added edge of some dancey, electronic sounds, some 80's influence, and even a little bit of tribal drum flavor. She really finds the perfect sound on every song. There are 7 new songs, which are gems, and there are four remixes(including a hidden one of "angels on the floor", the weakest remix). I was so excited to hear "choco deluxe", a techno-ish remix of "chocolate city", one of my favorite lida songs. "Tantilize", the "cape Fear" remix is genius-she only uses a few lines, but creates a groovin, extremely sexy soundscape. The wierdest song is "we saw", which just uses samples of a male, tribal sounding voice, no lida, but it's actually really good-nothing lida does is bad. If you're a lida fan, i think you'll find this album to be an apex to her musical career-if you've never heard her but love eclectic, dreamy, upbeat pop, get this now!"
Beautiful voice for beautiful music

"Back on track for sure. I love her cd's and listen to them often. Her albums before Joyride are a little too primitive. After that her instrumentation smoothed out and her vocals are consistently beautiful. Layers of Lida, it's lovely!"
Senior Slump?
12/14/1999
(3 out of 5 stars)

"A big improvement over Faith in Space -- how could it not be? -- but still not up to Ms. Husik's personal best. I recommend checking out her earlier work instead, which is some of the best pop music you'll ever hear."
