CD Reviews

Impressive!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I bought the Lighthouse Family's CD "Whatever Gets You Through the Day" as a Christmas present for a friend who's a fan. Not having listened to them much, except for the single "High" which got quite a lot of air play a few years ago, I was really impressed when I flicked it on the stereo at home to listen through before wrapping. In fact, as of Christmas Eve I'm planning on playing it one more time before wrapping it and getting my own copy! Great rhythms, catchy hooks and smooth soulful singing makes a powerful combination. This single has one of the best songs "I wish I knew how it would feel to be free", an almost melancholic but ultimately uplifting song with beautiful vocals. "You're a star" is a song of support and love for someone who has left the singer. The lyrics are very genuine, which considering "you're a star" is the sort of phrase that can make you cringe, is quite an achievement. You'll easily get your money's worth but my advice - the album is really worth getting. It's consistently good, with some really outstanding tracks like "Run" (my personal favourite), "You always want what you haven't got", and "Wish". I'm a convert."
