Album DescriptionLila Downs is one of the finest and most interesting of all the singers in the world music scene at the moment. A Mexican who was singing Mariachi tunes when she was just 8 years old, but who later became part of the army of "Deadheads" while attending college in Minnesota, Lila has a striking, vibrant voice and has developed a fascination and respect for the deepest of her Mexican roots. Her previous albums have explored music and songs from the various disparate regions of Mexico as well as the themes and concerns of modern life in that country. Her last album, One Blood/Una Sangre, gave her a breakthrough in the UK leading to a nomination for the Radio 3 Award for World Music, and she was one of the undoubted stars of the La Linea festival in London. The world music press and radio love her serious approach to music and her incredible voice and there is much interest for interviews and sessions when she returns to the Barbican on April 4th for her return to this year's La Linea Festival. The album will be led by a full feature in Songlines magazine with a full set of previews/reviews/features to follow.
