Frank Wildhorn may get mixed reviews for his Broadway shows, but there's little question the man can write a pop song, and his greatest advocate happens to be his wife, Linda Eder. Preceding her 1999 breakout hit It's No Secret Anymore, It's Time is a superior pop album from 1997 that shows off the best of Eder--her vocal power, her dazzling high notes, her sense of swing, her tender balladry. Most of the songs are by Wildhorn (including "Only Love" from The Scarlet Pimpernel and "Candle in the Window" from The Civil War), but there's also "Over the Rainbow" (gorgeously rendered with only piano accompaniment), "Man of La Mancha" (a showstopper she performed at Carnegie Hall), and Nine's "Unusual Way." There's even a Big Anthem, "Children of Eden," that with its pennywhistle solos foreshadows the theme song from a certain big-ship movie released later that year. Watch out, Celine Dion! --David Horiuchi

The Definitive Linda Eder Collection...
J. R. SOUTH | Albany, New York USA | 02/01/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"...and one of the best pop albums EVER. A lesser artist would be spreading herself too thin with the wide variety of styles on this album, but not this singer. From the Sinatra-esque "It's Time" to the zany novelty of "Don't Ask Me Why" or the simple, heartbreaking "Candle in the Window", Eder has the pipes and the actor's instinct to make it all work. All of the above were penned by LE's husband, composer Frank Wildhorn and lyricist Jack Murphy and are instant standards, great melodies wedded to ingenious words. Although their later works have started to sound oddly similar to one another, this is Wildhorn-Murphy at their most inspired, anyone saying otherwise must be impossible to please. And fortunately, they also had the good sense to round this CD out with material from other sources: a perfect "Over the Rainbow" that reveres Judy Garland without imitating her and an utterly amazing rendition of "Unusual Way" which starts out in a mournful mezzo and soars up into some uncharted soprano heaven. "How DOES she DO that?" a classical voice teacher once asked me. Her voice is that miraculous. I don't know what criteria or push the Grammy's would have needed to have considered this for a best album nomination when it came out, but it definitely deserved it. It easily ranks with the best of Streisand and surpasses everybody else. I could go on and on, so just be smart and BUY IT!"
Linda Eder= DIVA

"I first heard Linda sing "Vienna" on ROSIE and was blown away at what I heard. Instantly I purchased this cd out of curiosity to find out, Who is Linda Eder? Well needless to say I was beyond excited as to what I heard. The voice, the songs...seriously are incredible. What I really liked about the cd was the fact that I did not know of a lot of these songs, but each one captivated me. The quality of Linda's voice, and how she brings such vivid life to the lyrics is truly amazing. A lot of the songs were written by her talented husband. Her "Man of La Mancha" is simply wonderful, "Big Time" is stuck in my head! This is truly one of the Best cd's I own. Each song gives me that "favorite song" feeling. I took a chance on liking this cd and have gotten back way more than I expected. This cd is a "must have" and Simply said, Linda Eder is a DIVA"
Move over Streisand!

"If you thought Streisand was good, get prepared to hear great! I had the privilege of seeing and hearing Linda Eder in Jekyll and Hyde before it hit Broadway. Wow! I was amazed at this absolutely beautiful voice and talent. I became an instant fan. I own all of her CDs and this is my favorite, other than the soundtrack of Jekyll and Hyde. You will be blown away by her performance of Man of La Mancha. That song plus Over the Rainbow and Someone Like You is enough to buy this CD, but being the special entertainer she is, Linda Eder delivers on every song. If you are a Linda Eder fan or just getting to know her, this is the CD you should own!"
