Eccentric, but possibly worth a listen

"I got this for the Totentanz, as I already have several quality recordings of the Liszt concerti. I usually enjoy Berezovksy on Liszt; his Transcendental Etudes are fairly excellent. But this Totentanz is weird; the sudden tempo changes and generally exaggerated tempos are jarring in the beginning, though they get better later on. Possibly this is Wolff's fault; I don't know to what degree they each had input on that, but it seems like either could have tempered the other's extreme interpretation, but didn't. That said, the solo piano parts are pretty well articulated, and I guess even if it's not my favorite recording, this is another perspective on a classic, so you may find it worth a listen. You might just skip the first few minutes, it does get better later on."
