"I have in the past year participated in a production of this wonderful musical. I found this recording to be both well done and very helpful as to the way my songs should sound."
Another Mary to have fun with

"This recording of "Little Mary Sunshine" features the London cast and dates from 1962. Please see my review of the Off-Broadway cast album for a synopsis and "explanation" of the show. This version is much different. Song changes are discussed in other reviews so I won't touch on them here. From the song order and the documentation's synopsis it appears that the story was "tweaked" to fit London theatergoers who have their own tradition and performance-styles of Operetta. The performances are more straightforward than the New York album and sound more operatic and the lyrical jokes seem a bit more emphasized and heavy-handed. The orchestrations were written for this show in place of the two-piano version heard in New York. The recording is good. Voices are clearly heard and perform well (except for the ones that go...British accent, American accent, oops, British, no, American, oh hang it all I'll just sing). I don't like this one better than the New York recording but it is well-worth having in your library."
