A JAZZ GEM: A TREASURE OF ELOQUENCE

"Allow me to quote the original LP: "Ruth Price is a throwback to the past, a singer who belts a song, who anashamedly and anabashedly takes on a tune and gives it a couple of lungs full of breath and a fist full of force. What emerges is a swinging performance - actually, one swinging performance after another - that never worries you about influences or derivations. It's just jazz, just jazz singing." What could I add? And, finally: "Maybe the kids of today can't read, but Ruth certainly can!" Ruth Price is priceless, she is swing, she is eloquence, she is class! By the way, she owns a little jazz club, the "Jazz Bakery" in Culver City, CA. Visit her some day!"

"I have no idea where "Jeff K" is coming from but Ruth Price has done more for Jazz in the L.A. area than anyone I know (and certainly has contributed more than "Jeff K" has). I have been going to the Bakery for many years now and will continue to go as long as they remain open (which I hope is for many more years to come). My 5 star rating is more for the woman the the album. I would like to end by asking "Jeff K" if the musicians are treated this badly than why do they continue to come back year after year? I have seen everyone from Ron Carter, Stefon Harris, Brian Blade, Bill Frisell, Mulgrew Miller, Billy Childs, etc., etc. Why do they play the Bakery when they could just as easily play at Catalina's, La Va Lee, etc, etc. "Jeff K" is a bonafide idiot. For all of you that have some sense, check out the Bakery next time you are in L.A. you won't be let down."
