2 blues/jazz guitar giants finally release a live cd!

"I am giving this cd 4 stars as much for the men involved as for the actual performances here. They play great (of course), but the material is more from the jam/blues/rock stuff that Carlton (especially) has favored in recent years. The 2 finest moments are "Rio Samba" (from Carlton's 1978 Warner Bros. monster album), and "Talk to Your Daughter" (from Robben's 1988 Warners debut). In fact, Robben's solo on Talk is a good enough reason to buy this album! Throughout, the band is tight and plays well together, with pianist Babko getting some nice solos as well. I can't help but think that if this set contained "Room 335" (who wouldn't love to hear Robben tear through those changes??), "It Was Only Yesterday", "Revelation", and "I Ain't got Nothin' But the Blues", well, this would be a 5 star cd and the gold standard for guitarists. As is, it is a worthwhile purchase and a nice listen to 2 old friends jamming and having fun!"

"I've listened to Larry Carlton since the early days and I've seen him many times. Thus it was hugely dissapointing to hear this CD; I've know that most everything he's come out with since "Friends" has been basically... bland, elevator music (of course in my humble opinion). I figured however a live album with Robben Ford would be a different situation--> 100% wrong. This was perhaps the most boring live album I've listened to in many many years. Unlike the other reviewer, I even though the version of Rio Samba was a total dude; it could have been great but it wasn't.
If you like Larry's more recent work, I'm sure you'll like this album. But if you're into the older Larry Carlton work and want to listen to some of his live work--> get the two older albums (both recorded live in Japan)."
