CD Reviews

Great very obscure Dutch blues rock!
Nom DePlume | On top of the world!!! | 03/11/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a great band to check out if you like the Groundhogs as they mine a similar vein of injecting hard rock into the blues and beefing up the sound somewhat, but they also can sound very authentic as shown on Whiskey and Gin. But it was the title track that sold me on these guys. They took the Koko Taylor signature song and added a Zeppelinish riff that transformed it into a hard rock classic. The guitars are distorted and raw sounding and it becomes almost a new song in their hands. The aforementioned Whiskey and Gin is done with a bottleneck sound that is quite a lot of fun and they rework Spoonful (a song nearly every band of this genre seemed required to do) into something unusual. There is a tiny bit of acid rock here, along with the slightest bit of psychedelia (especially when they stretch out or begin to improvise), but it all meshes together to create a very enjoyable listening experience.

If you dig Savoy Brown or Johnny Winter's Alligator LPs, (and the Groundhogs, as I stated before) check these guys out, they do not disappoint. I first got turned onto them via a beat to death LP I found at a Goodwill a few years ago and was ecstatic to find this available on CD. Hopefully some people into early 70's blues rock will take a chance on this, because they deserve at least as much stature as the other bands mentioned."
