CD Reviews

Great album - very very under rated band

"The Living End's third album shows more maturity than their first two full length albums. Some history:
- The Living End (self titled): very punk/rockabilly/ska influenced album.
- Roll On: brings a bit more of the AC/DC feel into the mix, which yields great results.... As for Mordern ARTillery, the album does not try to capture you all at once like the first two albums have. Instead, each song offers up a different twist to their sound, which leaves you very impressed. Chris Cheney's guitarwork and songwriting ability can again be seen. Here is a quick rundown of the songs:
1. What Would You Do? - a quick little ditty, fun stuff
2. One Said to the Other - more of a ballad, slows the pace down for a little bit
3. Who's Gonna Save Us? - if any song hits the airwaves, I'll put my money on this one. Has a great beat, and the chorus is catchy.
4. End of the World - darkest song of the bunch, and one of my personal favorites. Feels like it could be on any of their three albums
5. Jimmy - slows down the pace of the album again (as I stated above), but they lyrics are impressive.
6. Tabloid Magazine - second song on the album that could get radio play. Very catchy stuff again.
7. In the End - slower ballad, very nice chorus and guitarwork
8. Maitland Street - second favorite song on the album. Slower than most songs at first, but it builds up as the song goes on. Great lyrics
9. Putting You Down - my least favorite song on the album, a slower ska influenced song
10. Short Notice - the band goes back to the quicker songs, and this gets you warmed up for the last few tracks. Works as a wake up song.
11. So What - the band's attempt at a country ballad. I usually hate country, but this song seems to work.
12. Rising up from the Ashes - if only this song were a bit longer, it might have been my favorite song by the band. very melodic. The band tosses in some oozin-aaahs (similar to how Bad Religion does it).
13. Hold Up - If you've heard the 'Roll On' album, this song is comparable to 'Uncle Harry'.
14. The Room - My FAVORITE song on the album. This 8 minute epic starts out almost as if it belongs on the Who's "Tommy" album, but it builds up and changes direction a few times. I would love to see this song live.Overall - this Modern ARTillery probably isn't as fast paced as their first two albums, but it does not take away from the quality of the album. Early favorite for top 10 album of the year."
Can't stop listening...

"I love the Living End. I've seen them three times. One time on the Warped Tour, the next year my band PLAYED with them on the Warped Tour, and a third time when they toured with Green Day. Every time, they put on the most intense, amazing live show. Their albums are no different...simply amazing. I thought that nothing could touch "Roll On." Apparently I was wrong...So I'm chilling in Japan right now, on tour with my band Mastro3 (http://www.pocketface.com/mastro3) and my friend gives me a copy of the new Living End (not available in the U.S.). Simply put, I can't take it out of my cd player. It is, without a doubt, the best rock album I've heard this year! Truly amazing!!! Quite a bit softer than their previous releases...but much more musical. A true sign of maturity, LE knows that less is more...and they prove it on this album. Trust me (and all of the other reviews), LE has made a BRILLIANT album. Buy it now!!!! I'm not satisfied with a copy...I'm buying the actual record as it will become a cherished addition to my cd collection. Enjoy!!!"
Sheer Living End Awsomeness!!!

"Ok first off I just have to say the Living End is one of the best bands out there right now...Or ever! This CD is just an unbelievable album. I honestly didn't think they could make something as good as roll on. But obviously I'm a complete bafoon. This CD is about equal to the awsomeness of Roll On. They have songs that sound like songs that could have been on Roll On and songs just like there old stuff. Honestly its worth the extra money if you buy the import(for the americans).GET IT IF YOU LOVE THE LIVING END!!!"
