"It is not often that I find an artist who totally captures my ears and heart. Lizzie West did all of that with one single song: Chariots Rise. I heard it on the Secretary soundtrack (now out of print) and had to purchase everything else this woman had out on the music scene. Lizzie's music cannot be compared to anyone else because she is unique -- she doesn't take "no" for an answer and plays by her own rules. You can hear heartache and elation in her words -- each chord blends seamlessly with the lyrics to make a musical masterpiece. Do yourself a favor and buy this album (also pick up her full length, Holy Road: Freedom Songs) -- I guarantee that these two discs will not leave your cd player anytime soon."

"If you have been watching Dawson's Creek on TBS lately then you have seen the commercials with this song. And yes this is the song on the CD, all of it, not just the snippets we've been hearing on the TV! "Sometime" is by Lizzie West and this is her album that she put out in 2002. I guess the producers decided that since Dawson's Creek is airing it's final episode May 14th, that they needed an appropriate song to go with it's demise. This song is it and it's wonderful. Lizzie West is a true talent and deserves a listen more than the few seconds on TBS. Enjoy!!"

A Little Taste of Lizzie's Style

"I first encountered Lizzie West on Morning Becomes Eclectic, a Los Angeles based free-form radio show that is ahead of the game as far as great new music is concerned. After I heard her live set, I was on a mission to try and find everything and anything else that she'd done, and of course, I found this EP. It is a small taste of what's to come on her full-length album, due in the spring of this year, and I'm excited, based on this four song EP. Her music is driven by jangly acoustic guitars and jaunty rhythms while her voice, a powerful instrument, bounces between husky, serious murmurs and airy, playful laughs."Sometime" is definitely my favorite song on the album - a light-hearted classic, perfect for a road trip across the country or across town. I always find myself singing it for the rest of the day after I hear it. "I'm Your Man" is a spooky rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic and with West's musical sensibilities, comes off without a hitch. This song was also featured in the movie "Secretary," so it's probably her most widely known piece. "Chariot's Rise" is a typical Americana song of love and loss where West's voice is eerily familiar to Natalie Merchant's. "Family Christmas" is a sweet, mellow song, but, in my opinion, a little out of place on this EP.
I gave this EP four stars because she didn't include the song "Dusty Turnaround" which I believe is one of her best songs and would've given listeners more of an idea of her style than "Family Christmas." But Lizzie West is a wonderful artist, and we can expect some more great music from her in the near future."
